Young at 68

We are the 68th best business school in the World and the 7th best Asian business school (2011 FT Business School Ranking).
Incidentally, 7 and 68 are happy numbers also. Search Wikipedia. Square the individual digits and add them up, till you get one. And no, not every number on the shelf is a happy number. There are unhappy or sad numbers also like the number 2 or 3.
So is our ranking to be happy about? Are we so, “UP in the AIR”, that we don’t realize that we are actually at the bottom 40% of the table? So, surrounded by fuzzy goodness of realization that to be called “Below Average” in this prestigious FT Business School ranking doesn’t sour our moment of glory?
You bet your damn 2 cents that we ARE!
Get this.
To be eligible for FT rankings the institute needs to complete a minimum 5 years of running (we are in our 7th) besides meeting a host of criteria. We have debuted at HAPPY 68, in the same list as grand old LBS, Harvard and Stanford. This makes SPJCM the youngest toddler in the list. For an institute in its inceptive years to be on par with Boston University or Thunderbird school of Global Management and ahead of the Universities like Ohio state and Indiana is nothing short of monumental achievement.
And if you were the geek who actually calculated how happy 7 is, you will realize to get to 1 there are lot more steps involved. Leaving aside the metaphysical connotations, this only shows rank is tough to get but extremely hard to keep. If it weren’t for the arduous commitment of SPJCM management in the last 6 years, we would not have achieved this glorious distinction. Now the cliché that the only way forward is UP holds true in our case also, but we rather be a below average baby than an average adult anywhere.
2011 journey has started. Looking forward to average childhood, above average teen and par excellence adult life.
